I have a request for a translation of Hebrew / Aramaic (not sure which) from the parish register of St Mary Newington marriages, 1707

There’s also some Greek and Latin ( I can just about manage the Latin) but if there are any Classic Greek scholars amongst us, that would also be helpful!

I am searching for anything on my Great Grandfather Moses PHILLIPS (born Mile End, LONDON) , I know the basic dates, wife and children but nothing about him. He died before any of my Immediate family was
born and my Grandfather who was 20 when his father died, also died before I was born. Lived as far as I know in London all his life.

There is only one photo of him which my mother rescued from her very elderly aunt's (by marriage) bin together with a young picture of his wife, this could have been lost forever. This picture of my Great
Grandfather was taken between about 1895 and 1900 ish ( I think) when he would have been in his early 20s, he looks relatively young if you discount the huge moustache. He is in military uniform, a Sergeant I
think.

Can any one tell me what uniform this was and if there is a list of pre World War 1 Jewish Soldiers anywhere. I have search National Archives and he is not there but if I knew the Regiment it might narrow my searching. I live in the Outer Hebrides so I do my research mostly on line.

This photograph was taken outside a synagogue in Leeds. I would be interested to know  what the occasion might have been, and to put names to any faces. My grandfather Norman NATHAN is in the back row, 4th from the left.

Elly submitted this photo to the Leeds Jewish Telegraph. It has now been identified by Murray Freedman and other JT readers. This is what Murray says: " ... a group outside the New Briggate Synagogue, Leeds photographed on Sunday 9th July 1922 on the occasion of the completion of a major refurbishment of the synagogue ... The centre figure on the front row was its spiritual leader, Rabbi Israel Hersh Hurwitz, flanked on his left by the first Reader, Rev. Casriel Kahan, and on his right by the second Reader, Rev. Simon Manson. Five years after this picture was taken the synagogue closed down." Another JT reader has identified the man on Rev. Simon MANSON's right as Hyman FAINER (front row, 3rd from left). The gentleman bottom row, second right, is Lazarus Rosenberg, president of the synagogue for 16 years (died 1936).

Elly would like to thank those who responded to her request and awaits more information from anyone else who can help.
