Here are some ideas of records that might be useful

Hospital Records

When our ancestors fell sick what did they do? Where did they go? What rules governed hospital admissions? How did they pay for treatment? What records survive? The National Archives has information on hospitals and their records. Click here to go to their webpage.

Jews at war

This is a section which has come about because children in our schools study the Second World War. I prepared a power point for children at my school in Year 4/5. To download the power point presentation click here. List members are welcome to contribute to this section-please contact the webmaster. Questions about the power point can be submitted to the webmaster.

Freemasonry

Freemasonry and Jewish life seem intertwined. There are and were exclusively Jewish Freemasonry lodges. Jews were never excluded from Freemasonry. If you think your ancestor was a Freemason, then you can probably obtain records from the Museum and Library of Freemasonry. Their resources cover all English-speaking Lodges, so if your ancestor wasn't in England, they might still be able to help you.

The Land Registry

For £4, over the phone, you can order an Office Copy Search for the ownership of any building in England & Wales. Sometimes, one needs to know who owns a place- that's how to do it. [Miriam Margolyes]
