Patriarch of the Leeds LANDA family, Charles arrived in Leeds prior to 1871, with his first wife and children. Shortly after his wife died and he soon remarried, my great grandmother, a divorcee, and went on to have 3 more children, the youngest of whom was my grandfather, Dick (Isaac). This photo appeared in the Jewish World with obituary in 1910.

Fanny was the youngest daughter of Charles LANDA and the only daughter born to him by his second wife, Rachel nee BLAUMAN. Fanny was born in Leeds, moved to Liverpool after her marriage in 1895 and later to London, where she died.

Known variously to his family as Jack or Mick. Myer was born in Leeds, the eldest child from Charles LANDA's second marriage. He worked as a journalist, moving to London and marrying Annie Gertrude GORDON, also a writer. They had one daughter Ruth, who never married but continued in the family tradition of journalism. MJ also wrote plays, some with his wife, including "The Shylock Myth".

Dick (Isaac) LANDA youngest son of Charles, was born in Leeds. Following his older brother Jack (MJ) to London to work as a journalist he was introduced to his sister-in-law's first cousin, Daisy PULVER. The couple were married in 1911. Their older son, Basil, was born in 1913 and seven years later their youngest son Godfrey (my father) was born. This photo was taken in the back garden of their London home in about 1933 around the time of my father's bar mitzvah.

From Theresa who writes: I have a picture of my father's class in the Leyland School- he looks to be about 6 years old, so it will have been taken about 1902. He is on the second row from the back and second from the right, not counting the teacher. All of the children will have been Jewish.
