Victor was a Staff Sargent in June 1915, and won the Military Cross on the 24 June 1915, whilst repelling an attack by the Bayer reserve infantry regiment No5. During this engagement a German Lt Max Seller was killed. Victor knew or found out Max was Jewish, and had him buried with his own men and in accordance with Jewish faith.

Myself and a German historian friend have been fighting with the authorities to get Max's headstone corrected, and this month it's finally had a Star of David engraved on it.

Max Seller was a merchant in Gunzenhausen, and before the war sold material as used by tailors, and as Victor came from a family of tailors we are trying to find if there at any point was a link between the two men prior to the war, so finding documents, family stories is high on our research list. Sadly Both of Max's brothers were killed in WWI, his sister committed suicide after being arrested by the Gestapo and his mother died in a concentration camp, so there is no Seller family to see his headstone, but would be nice if we could contact a living relative of Victor, who might be interested in that small act of kindness he did in the heat of battle.
