Photographs can be a valuable resource for family historians.

Sometimes it's hard to identify people in the photographs we have in our collections.

Another problem we face is in the dating of old photographs.

Rosemary Wenzerul writes:
"I typed in the words 'dating old photos' onto Google and it came up with numerous entries but I looked at the Family Chronicle web site. On this web site there are examples of photos showing the fashions from 1840, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 1900. This is very useful if you have a photo of someone and can't date it - you may be able to compare what they were wearing with the photographs shown."
